My name is Joshua Carter, and I am a young filmmaker.

At a very young age me and my brother Luke have always wanted to make films. We made silly home movies, with no editing what so ever with an old Hi8 camera which were mostly about robberies. They were funny, but us trying to make a serious movie was even funnier. It was after watching Lord of the Rings we tried making a film with sticks as swords and a pink, plastic bow and arrow. Perhaps I'll upload it some day...

Luke went on to make music. He had been learning guitar from a young age, and started to write music during high school, during his English lessons. A lot of his music is very original. Over the years he upgraded his equipment and instruments to form himself a full music, (studio like) room! His great talent hasn't been wasted, even though he decided to become a plumber.

I really wanted to make films, and I really loved 'The Sims', so when 'The Sims 2' came out, I was delighted that I was able to make films! I made music videos mostly, but I made a few little films using by the voices of me and my cousins, but they were always about murder mysteries! They weren't very good at all, but it was a start.

Ever since Lord of the Rings I always wanted to do visual effects! The fact that you could make anything, any world, and you could be in it - well...being super imposed that is. I got a freebee version of Bryce 4, and tried to make planes and stuff, but it was only good for landscapes. I tried out poser, but that was rubbish. I then gave up on that and found LSmaker, and I made short little clips of light saber flights, gun fights and a guy taking out a guy with a light saber using a bike fitted with laser guns! I filmed them with a webcam because I had no idea how to get footage off a camera on to the computer. You can see of this in my showreel of my work over the last 4 - 5 years!

When I discovered how to connect the Hi8 camera to the computer, it was rubbish quality but I still made films with it. I made yet another murder mystery with my brother...urrgh. When I luckily got After Effects, I made some little clips, (some in the showreel) of some little effects such as some glass shattering, scoring a goal against my self and some muzzle flash tests. We made action films with a group of friends, (if only we could do that now with some good effects etc) such as Battlefall and Hedge Man. We did a lot better HedgeMan but I lost it - alot of hard work went into that. My brother recorded all the sounds like running, falling, nearly every russle of leaves etc. It was a great quality on his part part.

I then found blender, which was incredible for a piece of free software. But Maya, (which I was fortunate to get hold of) has been amazing. I've made helicopters, cars, buildings etc and all of it I am able to composite into live action footage. But now I've lost interest in just that. I found out that I was actually interested in all aspects of filmmaking - scripting, sound, acting, and other parts of editing. I wanted to do it all, and I could, with lego.

I found lego to be a brilliant way of filmmaking. You can be in control of everything, the sets, the characters and how they act, the sound and maybe with some effects, the WEATHER! The community is amazing! www.bricksinmotion.com is the best site that I've come across for filmmaking. People share their films, works in progress, techniques, other infomation and even casting for voice actors. I believe its run by 'Smeagol', (real name Philip Heinrich) who is a great inspiration to me.

I think thats just about it
